Cancun Weather, Weather in Cancun

The weather in Cancun, Mexico is generally quite tropical and warm, controlled by the sea winds. From season to season the highest temperatures range from about 26 degrees Celsius (78.8 °F) in January up to 32 degrees Celsius (90 °F) in June/ July.  April to September offers the hottest weather in Cancun and because of the close proximity to the Caribbean and the Gulf; humidity is high year round with the average around 70%. The summer months do bring very hot weather but all hotel rooms offer air-conditioning.

Normally the weather in winter is very pleasant however occasionally colder currents come down from North America and can drop the temperature to below 20 degrees Celsius (68 °F), happily these periods do last long before moving on.
Cancun does also experience tropical storms which normally take place between May and December; however the rainy season also extends into January. February to April/ May tend to be quite dry with the rare rain shower. Cancun is very rarely hit directly by hurricanes, but recently they have struck near the city.

The weather can vary quite wildly from hour to hour, but rarely turns unpleasant. It can happen that one will look out their window to see the beautiful sunshine, while rain falls not 100 meters away. Some weather sites will report rain all day during the rainy season which can cause some concern to travellers. But because Cancun has a high level of humidity there is always a chance of rain, although all day rain is very rare except during a tropical storm.
