Cancun Scuba Diving

Cancun scuba diving offers the chance to explore an underwater paradise with numerous attractions. Off the coast of Cancun one can discover the Maya Reef which is the second largest reef in the world, following only the Great Barrier Reef. The Maya Reef runs all the way from Cabo Catoche to the Bay Islands which is in Honduras. The reef can be found anywhere from just 250 feet off the coast up to more than 120 miles off the coast of Mexico.

The Maya Reef has helped the Mexican Caribbean become on the top scuba diving destinations worldwide. Cancun is especially well known for diving because of the great visibility and the proximity to the reef.
The favourite diving spot off the Cancun coast is the Yucatan Peninsula which has crystal clear waters and tons of marine life. Under the azure waters you will find numerous colourful fish, sponges, crustaceans, molluscs, tunicates and amazing reefs home to various species of coral. Remember to be careful not to harm the coral when diving in this area as it takes more than 500 years to recover.
